Revisions for 2011 make this sports sedan even better. introductionthe mazda6 is one of the most appealing midsize sedans on the market, particularly to drivers who enjoy spirited handling and performance. It looks great, with sporty styling suggestive of a coupe. Inside is a nice cabin with lots of convenience features. And despite the swoopy looks, its has a big trunk. It checks all the boxes as a practical midsize sedan. but what we like most about the mazda 6 is its driving dynamics. Underway, it delivers sparkling performance, offering a terrific driving experience among the midsize sedans. The mazda6 delivers good fuel economy, which has been further improved for 2011. It's also attractively priced. the 2011 mazda 6 brings styling revisions and interior upgrades. Changes to the mazda6 for 2011 include new headlights and fog lights, new folding mirrors with turn signals, new cloth upholstery material, a new steering wheel, and new 17-inch alloy wheels. The mazda6 was completely redesigned and re-engineered for the 2009 model year. That's an increase of 1 mpg over 2010. the 3. 7-liter v6 makes 272 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, delivers extraordinary performance, and is epa-rated at 18/27 mpg, a 1. 5-mpg increase over 2010. We found it a delight to drive, with a 6-speed automatic mated to the most powerful v6 in the class. mazda6 competes against an impressive group of midsize sedans. Among them: toyota camry, honda accord, chevrolet malibu, nissan altima, volkswagen jetta, hyundai sonata, kia optima. Those who fully enjoy and appreciate the driving experience may find the mazda6 the most compelling. With its flowing roofline, wraparound overhangs that appear shorter than they are, classy grille and front fascia, and sleek lines overall, the mazda6 comes across as a smaller, trimmer, tidier car than some of its competitors. the new headlights are housed in sleek and stylishly shaped housings, each headlamp like a squeezed trapezoid or pea pod with pointy ends, inlaid on the graceful front fenders. An upper body crease that would normally go to the front wheel stops just shy of the fenders, and the rear wheel arches have double creases to mirror the front. the mazda6 five-sided grille has a deep v-shape to it and it's all body-colored, except for the chrome winged mazda logo. The new fog lights are set in horizontal openings surrounded by some light gray plastic and horizontal character lines in the airdam. The exception is the console trim that slashes across the passenger's dash which, on some models, appears a cross between silver-veined black granite and ash-black burnt wood with wide rings in it. It's a look we've not run across recently. It's a new cloth for 2011, sporty and rugged like the previous material. Mazda has long been a leader in cloth upholstery. There is generous room inside, so even six-foot-plus bodies can sit in front and then jump in back without moving the front seat, even on cars with the moonroof. The hood slopes out of sight, common in this aerodynamic era. The roof pillars are not so wide that they obstruct vision; the outside mirrors are fairly low and so is the dashboard, all adding up to a good view out. Dash and cabin lighting are more than adequate with either set of gauges. instruments are laid out with fuel and tachometer to the left, speed and coolant temperature to the right. Between the two are the odometers, outside temperature. When shifting an automatic manually the gear selected is shown above the odometers. at top center of the dash is a deep red digital display for climate, radio and clock that's easily read by anyone in the car. Below it are center vents, the audio system or navigation if so equipped, and basic three-ring climate controls. Big omnidirectional round vents are on each end of the dash for ventilation. Lights and wipers are on stalks. Some secondary controls are to the left of the steering wheel next to a small storage tray. Redundant audio, telephony and cruise controls are on the steering wheel. all the systems are simple to use. It can be a very helpful feature. We found it worked better on the mazda6 and caused fewer false alarms than similar systems we've tried on some other brands. cargo space is one of the strong suits of the mazda6. With 16. 6 cubic feet of volume, the mazda6 is at or near the top of the class in cargo space. It also boasts a low liftover height: one needs to lift cargo only to the top of the bumper and slide it in, the car's sweeping roofline making the vertical opening much larger than the depth aspect. There are no hinges or trunk arms within the opening nor cargo shelf impediments, and the rear seatbacks can be released from the trunk. the chassis structure is very stiff, which is a good thing. Chassis rigidity is a key element in allowing a smooth ride and sharp handling. All-new, completely redesigned, enjoyable and practical. introductionthe 2011 mazda 2 has been completely redesigned inside, outside and underneath. The all-new five-seat, front-wheel-drive subcompact was designed to take on a wide range of competitors, such as the toyota yaris, nissan versa, ford fiesta, hyundai accent, and kia soul and rio. first introduced in 2007, the mazda 2 has been extremely successful, selling more than 400,000 units in europe and asia, and being named world car of the year in 2008. Market gets the third-generation mazda 2 before any other market. the styling is fresh and we find it arrestingly good-looking. Like all mazda products of recent vintage, the 2011 mazda 2 has been made to look much bolder and sportier than its previous incarnations. The body itself has been reshaped in a much more sporty fashion, with more sculpted sides, a laid-back windshield, and a jaunty little rear roof spoiler on one version. There's a new grille, hood, fenders, lamps, bumper and air intakes up front, with new body-colored door handles, new taillamps, a power liftgate, new 15-inch wheels, and exhaust system outlets at the rear. And then they looked for hundreds of places to save a few pounds, like the wiring harness, the door locks and latches, the engine's radiator, the automatic transmission shifter, the pedals, and even the speakers in the stereo system. The final result was a car that weighs just a bit over 2300 pounds in basic form, a five-door hatch that is actually lighter than a two-seater miata. we climbed in and found the seats comfortable and supportive and we liked the thick, sporty steering wheel. Although rated as a five-seater, we wouldn't subject a fifth person to the back seat, the same as we wouldn't for any car in this class. The little engine is gutsy, with a sporty note at upper revs. Shifting the manual five-speed is easy and enjoyable. The new brakes are responsive, with no annoying slack in the pedal travel. The new electric steering is responsive. The new suspension tuning minimizes body lean in corners yet ride quality is smooth and comfortable. It also has mazda's first brake priority system that automatically puts the brakes on whenever the brake and accelerator pedals are pressed simultaneously. The 2011 mazda 2 has received europe's highest crash rating of five stars. walkaroundfor 2011, mazda 2 has been given a substantial cosmetic makeover, with every panel on the car replaced by newer and flashier sheetmetal. Along with that are a new upper and lower grille design, new hood, new fenders, new lamps, new bumpers and air intakes up front, with body-colored door handles all around, new taillamps, liftgate, and wheels. the new mazda2 has very large, fully integrated halogen headlamp units that flow around the front corner into the fender, creating a line that goes up over the heavily bulging front fender like other mazdas and then all the way to the rear of the car through the centerline of the body. The lower body is heavily sculpted with an upswept line starting just behind the tucked-in front tires and extending up and over the rear wheel wells. We found the seats comfortable and supportive. the three-spoke steering wheel has a thick rim and a thickly padded round hub flanked by redundant switches for the sound system on the left and the cruise control system on the right, and we think it's the best steering wheel in the segment for its functionality and design. The steering wheel is meaty to hold onto, and the combination of a tilt steering column and adjustable seat height make for easy adjustment before setting off. The shifter, whether manual or automatic, resides in the bottom center of the instrument panel where the center console would be (there is one, though optional at extra cost). the instrument panel, seat trims, door panels and door pockets have all been redesigned for 2011 more comfort and utility. The instrument panel, center stack, switches and controls have all been redone for the 2011 models. the instrument panel is built around a continuous horizontal line, which makes the narrow cockpit seem wider than it really is. The instrument package contains the usual three-round-gauge package, and is put together in an unusual but pleasing way, with a second large, round binnacle in the center of the instrument panel to house the sound system's various readouts, with the cd slot above and a three-dial hvac control panel just below the readout binnacle. Market, but it is tuned in such a way, and the drivetrain is geared in such a way, that it performs more than just adequately. It sounds good at the top end, and it's not buzzy. The throttle, which is drive-by-wire, has been tuned for very aggressive throttle tip-in, and these functions taken together make the mazda 2 a hoot to drive. Brakes are front disc, rear drum with abs, ebd, brake assist. the suspension underneath is fairly conventional, with macpherson struts in front and a trailing-arm twisting-beam rear suspension, but in the redesign, the engineers have done some interesting things with the suspension mounts and bushings that yield a much flatter ride through high-speed corners and quick-reacting suspension that doesn't make a lot of noise or transmit a lot of bumps and humps to the seats inside the car. The power steering is electric, not hydraulic, mounted on the upper steering column, and reacts to steering inputs very positively, without lag or confusion. summarycompletely redesigned, the mazda 2 is practical and quite a bit of fun to drive.
